About the Class

Out of all the photo classes and clinics taught, we have been recognized by many as "The Photo class that just makes sense"!  We think it's because all the other classes and clinics that keep coming out miss the mark on what most photographers really want: a course of teaching that cuts through all that techno-stuff, and uncovers the secrets the pros use to create amazing photos.

After all, that's what we all want, right? We want to create photos that make our friends and family say, "Wow, that's incredible. Did you take that?" But even though we have great digital cameras - in fact, we often have the exact same makes and models that the big pros use - somehow they're still the ones getting all the "Wows!" Until now.

Alaska Photography Academy now tackles the most important side of digital photography: how to take pro-quality shots using the same tricks that today's top digital pros use.

This isn't a class on photographic theory - it isn't full of jargon and confusing concepts. This photography class teaches you exactly which button to push, which setting to use, and many of the most closely guarded "tricks-of-the-trade" to get you shooting dramatically better looking, sharper, more colorful, professional looking photos with your digital camera every time you push the shutter.

Here's another thing that makes this class different: at the end of the course we send you home with access to our APA "Members Only" website that has some of the most clever photo secrets out there.  Access to the site is $295 a year.  It is yours FREE when you come on the Safari with us.  It also comes on our mobile APA Smart Phone site. You can take it anywhere you go.  This is the primary place that you can refer to any time when you need to remember how to repeat that little trick that makes all the difference in your shot. With this private access, you'll learn another pro setting, another pro tool, another pro trick to transform your work from snapshots into gallery prints. There's never been a site like it; if you're tired of taking shots that just look "OK," and if you're tired of looking in photography magazines and thinking, "Why don't my shots look like that?" then this Alaska Photography Academy course is for you.

Knik Glacier Adventure - Our Back-country Explorer Tour

Our experienced guides will show you the route into a remote back-country glaciated valley. You will learn how to create an "Iconic Alaska Nature Photo Masterpiece" while you travel across beautiful meadows, through streams, past majestic mountains and waterfalls en-route to the mighty Knik Glacier. Enjoy a stop for a hot lunch while taking in the spectacular scenery. Depending on river conditions, this ride will take you to the face of a towering glacier. Alternate locations possible depending on weather.

We’re so popular for our training due to the hands-on approach for our classes. In our sessions we’ve learned some students prefer an even more hands-on approach to their learning. With a limit of 10 guests per safari excursion or less, your Alaska Photo Safari adventure allows for ample time in some of our favorite places to photograph and properly give our students the time to understand and gain the knowledge to create stunning images on their own.

With this small work-group we will travel by ATV to the Knik Glacier and stop to photograph many of the visually stunning scenic points of Alaska. We work with each student and answer questions as needed. The goal is to have a fundamental understanding of how the camera works and some basic skills in composition and choosing shutter speed, aperture, iso, and lenses.

We will be focusing on how to create that great Alaska photo with deep, rich colors, spectacular panoramas and attention to fine details that will create a final masterpiece and experience to enjoy for years.  We will also be teaching how to create Great Photographic Panoramas that were not able to produce until the advent of digital cameras.  This unique process alone is worth any price that one pays.  It  has been the number one item that most all Safari participants have enjoyed the most.

We Had the time of our lives.  The scenery was so lovely. We go some of the best photographs we have ever taken.  As great as it was to take all those wonderful pictures, we loved the adventure even more.  The barbecue was great too. What a day to remember!

"I had a wonderful time and learned so much.  I have had my camera for a few years and have always used the automatic settings.  I was always afraid to try it manually.  I am so excited to finally feel like I know how to really use my camera.  Thanks."  - C. Christiansen
